Everyone’s favourite vitamin- Vitamin C

We think it’s fair to say that the most recognized and accessible vital mineral out there is vitamin C. whether you are a full-grown adult or even a young child, vitamin C supplements seem to be everywhere and readily accessible.

Another name for vitamin C is absorbic acid, which is a vital mineral which is necessary for the growth and development of many elements in the body. This particular vitamin is crucial to so many bodily functions including absorption of iron, strong function of the immune system, healing wounds, healthy bones and teeth, the formation of collagen as well as the maintenance of cartilage in the body.

Whenever we’re feeling under the weather, the common advice from everyone is “make sure you dose up on your vitamin C”. whilst vitamin C might not necessarily be an actual cure for a common cold or flu, the benefits of maintaining a healthy level of vitamin C in your body may help to protect the immune system against further deficiencies or health problems.

The make-up of vitamin C is one of many antioxidants that when consistent in the body can help to prevent and protect against illnesses and damages caused by harmful toxic chemicals and pollutants in your body. It is a great vitamin to protect against the build-up and contribution of developing health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis and damage caused by smoking cigarettes.

Our bodies don’t actually store vitamin C on their own, so overdosing on vitamin C is not something that we need to be overly concerned about. However- it’s never recommended to exceed the recommended daily dose of vitamin C as this can cause several side effects such as diarrhoea or an upset stomach. Because your body doesn’t store vitamin C by itself, it’s important to make sure that you are consuming the adequate dose from your diet to maintain healthy levels. There are many different foods and drinks that vitamin C can be found in. of course we are all aware from a young age that oranges are the most common and familiar source of this; but did you know that there are so many other fruits, vegetables and organic items that also contains sufficient amounts of vitamin C?:

  • Cantaloupe
  • Orange juice
  • Broccoli- best cooked
  • Red cabbage
  • Green Peppers
  • Kiwi’s
  • Tomato juice
  • Strawberries
  • Lemons and Grapefruits
  • White potatoes
  • Brussels sprouts- (we know not everyone is a fan!)
  • Cauliflower

Of course, not everyone enjoys all the foods listed above, so if your body is deficient in the vitamin C due to a lack of any of these above nutrients, we can always achieve our recommended intake through supplements. these are usually found in the form of vitamin tablets, vitamin sachet drinks and for children usually gummy tablets sold at health food stores or pharmacies. This is not the only option though when it comes to increasing your body’s intake of vitamin C. as well as many other multi vitamins available, vitamin C can now be administrated through intramuscular injection or an IVNT drip. you may often find that vitamin C injection is usually administered alongside the vitamin B complex. the vitamin C and vitamin B complex work together hand in hand as a “prevent and heal” team boost to your immune system.

Studies have shown that vitamin C can benefit our bodies in many ways. some of these being:

  • Reducing Stress– a lack of vitamin C in the body can be associated with stress related diseases. if somebody is to lead an unhealthier lifestyle with heavy drinking, smoking or obesity, the nutrient levels tend to be depleted. vitamin C is generally recognized as the ideal marker for improvement in your overall health and can boost the nutrient needed in bodies lacking health, and as a result, sensitive to stress
  • The Common Cold– as mentioned before, vitamin C cannot be branded as a cure for the common cold or flu, however the benefits of vitamin C can help to reduce the chances of worsened side effects and can help prevent more serious complications such as lung infections and pneumonia
  • Strokes– although this can be a slightly blurred line in terms of research, there are still studies to imply that a 42% lower chance of stroke risk can be associated with the higher levels vitamin C in the blood. the evidence was down to a sufficient level of fruits and vegetables ingested within the average diets- which as we know, all contain an adequate level of vitamin C to improve health factors.
  • Skin Ageing– due to vitamin C’s antioxidant properties- these are exponentially beneficial to the internal and external cells of the body. vitamin C can improve a wrinkled appearance, boosts hydration within the skin leading to a lack of dryness and in general a smoother anti aged appearance.

… the list goes on.

So, if Vitamin C is not a supplement you are already consuming daily- we recommend introducing this into your routine from today.

If taking a daily supplement is something that seems like a task you’ll forget, then have a browse about our website and research into our multi vitamin course- where you can either train in administering the multi vitamins yourself, or you can apply to be a model on one of our training courses for which we always require people to come in voluntarily and free of charge to try a dose of vitamins!
